MF #6 and AN #21 delighted our classroom as guest readers. They chose storybooks in their native languages. AN#21 read a russian language book about a young boy who found surprises inside a tree. MF #6 read a story in french about a finicky eater who discovered she liked everything. She just needed to try it.

Spring Break

During srping break, I did chores and more boring stuff.  I went with my mom to downtown Seattle.  I went to Starbucks first. Then my mom's friend went to the hair salon to her hair.  After that we went back to Bellevue. We bought pizza there.  I walked home and I was holding the heavy purse.  My mom's friend held the cereal boox bag.  My mom was holding two boxes of pizza and a gallon of milk.  That is the only part of spring break that was goo.

Socratic Seminar

Yesterday we had a Socratic Seminar.  The statement was, "It's Digory's fault the witch came to London."  I think it was fun because we got to hear other's opinions.  When we do a Socratic Seminar we learn more about the story.  We also did a Socratic Seminar on The Magician's Nephew.
~SM #10

On Tuesday we did a Socratic Seminar.  The statement is "It's Digory's fault that Jadis has come into our world."  I think it's the Atlantean's fault because they made the box.  Some people said it was Polly's fault.  Others say it is Digory's fault.  I don't know whose fault it is.
~JR #14

Yesterday we had a Socratic Seminar.  It was about how the witch came to our world and whose fault it was.  Most people thought it was Digory's, Uncle Andrew's, and Jadis'.  Some people think it was Polly's fault for touching the ring.  I said that it was Digory's fault because he rang the bell.  I like the Socratic Seminar.  Everyone loves Socratic Seminar.

The Socratic Seminar was really fun because people thought that it was really Digory's fault the witch came, and other people thought it was Uncle Andrew's fault, and many other people thought it was Polly's fault.  I thought it was Uncle Andrew's fault because he told Polly to tell Digory to ring on the bell to make the witch wake up.

Yesterday we did a Socratic Seminar on The Magician's Nephew.  The statement was "It's Digory's fault the witch came to London."  But I think it's Uncle Andrew's fault because I think he did know the witch was going to come, so he sent the kids.  None of that would have happened if Uncle Andrew didn't make the rings.  I wonder if we have to read to find out?

We had a Socratic Seminar on Monday.  It's weird - once somebody came up with an idea, the other people use it.  For example, "It's the godmother's fault", then everyone uses the godmother.  We sit in a circle.  We don't raise our hands to speak.  It was kind of weird.

Picasso Art Docent Project

I think Picasso is a great artist.  He does lots of creative stuff.  Picasso died in 1973.  He was really paranoid and sad.  That's why he did the Blue Picture.  It was the old guitarist - he almost looked like a skeleton.
~ AW #24

Yesterday we did an art lesson on an artist called Pablo Picasso.  Nolan's mom came in and talked to us about what kind of art Pablo Picasso likes.  Pable Picasso is my favorite artist because his pictures were like something I never saw before!  On Martin Luther King Jr. day I went to the exhibit.  It was really cool.  Pablo Picasso's art pieces were really cool and some of them made me think of things like someone dying.
~ LS #20

Yesterday we had an Art Docent project about Pablo Picasso.  We made faces wtih shapes.  We only used five shapes.  Mine had fangs.  I do not know if I ever went to the exhibit.
~JR #14

We learned that Pablo Picasso can draw good stuff.  He was talented.  But his life was terrible because he was poor and blue.  Blue is a symbol of sadness.  He made a lot of paintings that were really good.  He didn't have that much food.  A few years later he had a rose period.  That's how he lived.

My MLK Weekend

On Sunday the Seahawks lost the game. If they had won the game, they go to the Super Bowl. I wish they had because now my uncle and aunt won't come every Sunday. I won't see Matt Hasselbeck and the other Seahawks. I also won't see the Seahawk hawk and the coaches. I also won't see the funny commercials. I really really wish the Seahawks had won.

On my three day weekend I went skating. My mom always tells me to bend my knees. My left leg always bends but my right leg doesn't always bend. If I bend my right leg too much then I think I am going to fall. The things I am practicing are my three turns, my backward cross overs, my spins, my stroking, a layback and a Chinese spiral. The hardest one that we are practicing is three turns. I take private lessons with Coach Heather. Next year I will be in a competition. I have to compete against big kids. I have to practice really hard. I love skating!!

Yesterday I went to the Seattle Humane Society. We donated food. We got to see dogs first and cats next. We also got to see lab rats and mice. We got bracelets.
Then I went to Crossroads Park. I played basketball.
~JW #25

Over the long weekend I played Mario Kart on the Wii. I got in 12th-1st place. It's really fun. After that I played Just Dance 2 on the Wii. I beat my high score. I also was playing with my sister Sophie. She's starting to sit and play on the floor. Sophie likes to watch Metal Mania, a rock show. It has all the 80s rock music on it.

My family went to Seattle. First, we ate lunch at Samurai Noodle. Next, we read at Kinokunia in Uwajimaya. Then we went to Gus park. Finally we went to another park and went home. Well that was fun. Next week my father said we will go skiing.

I am going to tell you what I did on the weekend. I went to my grandma's cabin. It snowed a lot! I went sledding, snowboarding, and skiing. At the cabin she had apple cider and hot chocolate, and it was awesome. There was a really funny time when I woke up in the morning and I went to go wash my face but then I decided to take a shower. When I went to go put the water on a mouse came out of the drain. I screamed and my mom ran into the bathroom and said "What's the matter?" I said "I saw a mouse!" After that we went back to sleep.

Lucy vs. Edmund

Lucy is very truthful. She never tells lies but Edmund tells lots of lies. If Lucy lied, nobody would believe there was an imaginary world inside the wardrobe. Lucy and Edmund were upset from each other. I would like to be Lucy. I like when you tell the truth. I like Lucy.
~ RS #6

I like Lucy because I made a new friend named Lucy.
Lucy was a good person, for example she didn't team up with the white witch.
Lucy was the youngest and I like that because young little girls are cute.
Lucy is a sweet little girl, for example she cared for the fawn.
When Lucy first walked in the wardrobe, I said to myself, "What was going to happen? Until she met the fawn, I said to myself, "Is that fawn good or bad?"
Lucy was positive because she didn't lie about that strange place.
~ BR #13

Lucy is a character in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Lucy is very truthful. She finds a magical wardrobe. She finds out that at the back of the wardrobe there is a magical land. Lucy sees magical creatures there. She meets a fawn named Mr. Tumnus and hears stories about the white witch. She realizes that Mr. Tumnus works for the white witch. Lucy said "Don't capture me" so the fawn helped her back to the wardrobe.
~ SM #10

Edmund is selfish. Edmund is a liar. Edmund went into Narnia like Lucy did.
Edmund is a boy to little kids. He does not know as much as Lucy. He is grumpy.
~ NC #1

In The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe, Lucy has told the professor all about the story and surprisingly the professor believed her. The professor said Lucy is truthful and Edmund lies. So the story was true. But everyone was shocked. The professor said "now do you get it?" They said "that's impossible."
But it made sense.
~ LS #20

The character I am going to write about is Lucy. I want to write about her because she went into a whole different world. Lucy is the smallest kids in the story. She went into a magical wardrobe and that was the whole different world.
Lucy met a fawn named Mr. Tumnus. Lucy joined Mr. Tumnus for a little while for things to eat. That was the story of Lucy.
~LS #19

I think Edmund is a spiteful person because he lies and is mean on purpose. He made Lucy cry and met the bad witch. I think he deserved to get punished. Edmund is also a silly person.
I like Peter better because Edmund is ... spiteful, vicious, beast. Edmund is a meanie.
~CL #7

Edmund is very spiteful. He is a bully. He is a boy. At first he didn't believe the wardrobe country. Edmund likes Turkish delight. He is on the witch's side. He lies on purpose.
~JR #14

Edmund is very spiteful. He is a liar. He is a boy. He is mean. He is the second youngest. I like Edmund because he is a boy. Edmund is funny sometimes.
~DG #3

In Narnia, Lucy is so truthful that Lucy never lies. Lucy is the youngest one in her family. Lucy found a wardrobe. Then she discovered that it was a magical one and led to Narnia. There she met Mr. Tumnus. Lucy went to Mr. Tumnus' house. Then Mr. Tumnus told Lucy that he was working for the witch.
